How to Reverse the Direction of Your GPX Route

By on . Last updated .

Have you ever planned a route and then decided you'd like to run or ride it in the opposite direction? Or maybe you've downloaded a GPX file for a point-to-point trail and you want to start at the finish line. The Reverse Route Direction feature in GpxFix makes this easy.

What is Reversing a Route?

Reversing a route simply means flipping the order of all the track points in your GPX file. The last point becomes the first, the second-to-last becomes the second, and so on. This effectively changes the direction of travel for the entire activity.

Why Reverse a Route?

This feature is useful in a number of situations:

  • Planning and Exploration: See what a familiar route looks like in the opposite direction. A hill you always climb becomes a fast descent, and vice versa.
  • Event Preparation: If you have a GPX file for a race, you can reverse it to study the course from the finish line back to the start.
  • Point-to-Point Trails: For trails that are typically done in one direction, you can easily create a route for traveling the other way.

How to Use the Reverse Route Direction Feature

Using this feature in GpxFix is straightforward. After uploading your GPX file:

  1. Find the 'Reverse' option in the toolbox.
  2. Click the button to reverse the direction of your route.

GpxFix will instantly reorder all the points in your track. The elevation profile will also be flipped to reflect the new direction of travel. You can then download the reversed GPX file to use on your GPS device or favorite mapping platform.
